Al Buell (1910-1996) Born Alfred Leslie Buell in Hiawatha, Kansas. He started his art career by taking classes on art at the Chicago Art Institute. 1935 saw him begin work with Haddon Sundblom at the Stevens/Hall/Biondi Art Studio. As a self taught artist, he moved on to open his own Art studio in 1940 and went on to create numerous artworks for such names as Esquire and Coca Cola, along with many other mainstream publications of the time. His commercial career ended around 1965, with him moving on to create Landscapes and Portrait commisions in a fine art style. Like many other artists of the pinup genre, you can pick up on influences from other artists work, with background sketch effects and the staple diet of a lady with a skirt caught in an awkward moment, it all produced results that were both bright and uplifting. For the majority of his adult life, Al Buell was always creating new artwork. Unfortunately he was injured during an accident in 1993, an accident that saw an end to any further artworks.
